The chanting and cheering carried across the inlet like a crew hyped for battle. The 2025 Shivers Me Timbers Treasure Coast Boardriders Club Championship landed at the iconic Sebastian Inlet, that line where Pirate Coast meets Space Coast — and the pirates were ready to put on a show.
The Club teamed up with Break A Board to stream the whole thing live on YouTube. (LIVE STREAM LINK)
With $500 cash and a STOKE surfboard on the line, the Griffin brothers hit the water first. The draw wasn’t easy, but the waves came through, fun and powerful — perfect for the day.
Club Captain Brandon Blais, fresh off grabbing a new board from OHANA Surf Shop, was absolutely tearing it up. He surfed his way into the longboard finals, but 2024 Longboard Champion Fred “Flintstone” Fitz Jr. stole the win with a clean walk to the nose. Fred picked up his $100 Locals Surf Shop gift card and headed back across the river to his post at the Sebastian Home Depot.
Vice President Brian Dapelo was on fire all day, winning his first two heats with scores of 13.47 and 11.73. But even the VP couldn’t quite get past 14U Champion Charlie Moren or Pfeifer rider Jake Brister, the Treasure Coast High School champ. “And don’t put me in a heat with Kanon King!” Brian joked. “That kid’s the Sonic Surfboard King lately. But hey — the old guys can still hang!” And he proved it.
The local twin groms, Logan and Evan, pushed Charlie to the limit, but he still walked off with the perpetual 14U trophy and a new LISS surfboard rack. Huge shoutout to Kalani Martinez for running priority judging, helping set up, and ripping through every one of his heats.
Family is what this club is built on, and it showed all day.
ISA Level 2 Judge Mike Rhoads summed it up: “Didn’t get the final I wanted, but man — what a day.”
And then there’s IRON MAN Scott Strigl. President Taylor pointed him out to the early-20s crew:
“Take notes — if you want to surf into your 60s and 70s, take care of your body like Scott.”
With Scott, plus Marcio Lucas and Dan Holton, the 50+ division showed up huge. Big scores, big energy:
- Marcio Lucas – 11.47 (Won by .33)
- Dan Holton – 11.14
- Mike Rhoads – 9.73
- Scott Strigl – 7.50
The finals were a showcase of the Treasure Coast’s future: Gabe Griffin, Charlie Moren, Jake Brister, and Kanon King. The club missed the State Championship last year by less than a single point — barely short of Nationals and a potential World Championship push.
But with the talent on display, VP Dapelo put it simply: “If everyone shows up, we should be the Florida Cup State Champs, no question.”
Jake Brister, backed by the loud Pfeifer Surfboard crew, was one ride-out from the win. “I’m feeling this new board!” he shouted on the beach.
Huge thank you to Jeff Hawkins for holding it down on the mic — and to Fort Pierce Surf & Skate, your go-to local spot for gear. Stop in and see Jeff or Tiffany.
Final Results
- Gabe Griffin – 15.50 (Won by 1.44)
- Charles Moren – 14.06
- Kanon King – 13.10

The future is local, the future is strong — and the Treasure Coast Boardriders aren’t done yet.
