2025 Longboard Battle X Sunrise Surf Shop

by | Apr 22, 2026 | Longboard Battle

The sun came up warm and steady over Hutchinson Island, lighting up the Atlantic in soft gold. At Walton Rocks, the ocean looked dialed—long, clean lines wrapping across the sandbars, peeling just slow enough for classic longboarding. With glassy conditions, light offshore wind, and waves that seemed built for cross-steps and nose rides, it was the kind of day longboarders wait all year for.

The 2nd Annual East of 1 Longboard Battle wasn’t about individuals chasing scores. It was about rhythm, timing, and trusting your team. Tag in, tag out. Read the ocean. Keep the flow going. Because even in perfect surf, a team event can flip in an instant.

And the tone for the whole weekend was set the night before.

At Sunrise Surf Shop, the pre-party heat draw brought everyone together—teams, locals, friends—packing in shoulder to shoulder as the matchups were called. Music filled the space with Lance-O from Kulcha Shok on the decks, setting a laid-back but charged atmosphere. You could feel it building—this wasn’t just another contest. It was community, competition, and a shared love for the longboard life.

By morning, that energy carried straight into the water.

In 2024, Team Alpha of Blue Wave Surf Apparel took the win. But things changed. Their standout, National Champion Gavin Idone, stepped away and built something new—On A Boat. A fresh crew, new chemistry, and a lot to prove.

From the first horn, it was clear the waves were going to allow some serious surfing.

Heat 1 saw On A Boat find their rhythm early. Smooth entries, clean trims, and confident footwork. Long nose rides, controlled turns—nothing forced. They built a 36.20 total and never let the pace drop. Treasure Coast Board Riders stayed active but couldn’t match the consistency, while East of 1 and Point of Surfing struggled to find the same connection with the sets.

In Heat 2, 4 Amigos leaned all the way into the conditions. They capitalized on the best waves, stacking bigger scores and keeping their rotation tight. One standout moment came with a double whammy—two strong rides back-to-back that pushed their total to 41.02. It was one of the highest-scoring heats of the day.

Team Alpha, even without their former anchor, stayed composed. Their approach was steady—clean surfing, no mistakes, building a solid 31.05. Still very much in the mix.

By the semifinals, the tide had filled in just enough to stretch the rides even longer. The waves kept delivering.

On A Boat held their composure in a close heat, finishing with 32.99. It wasn’t about overpowering scores—it was about keeping the flow, minimizing gaps, and making every wave count.

The second semifinal came down to the smallest margin of the day. Fort Pierce Surf & Skate Shop edged Team Alpha by just 0.11. That kind of result says everything about this format—every ride, every decision matters.

By the final, the ocean still looked inviting—clean faces, open sections, and just enough push to reward patience and positioning.

This is where team surfing really shows.

It’s not just about the best wave—it’s about choosing the right wave at the right moment, keeping your surfers in sync, and maintaining momentum. One missed opportunity, one mistimed paddle, and the entire heat shifts.

And the final proved exactly that.

Wave for wave, it stayed tight the entire time. On A Boat and 4 Amigos traded momentum, both teams locking into the best sets and maximizing their opportunities. Every ride counted, and you could feel how close it was building.

When it came down to the numbers, it couldn’t have been tighter.

On A Boat — 32.73
4 Amigos — 32.43

0.3 margin decided the entire event.

That was the difference—one wave, one turn, one moment of connection.

Behind them, Team Alpha 2.0 held strong for third with 27.59, proving they were still a serious force even after the split. Fort Pierce Surf & Skate Shop finished fourth with 21.87, with a solid crew lineup of Nick Reinke, Dan Boyar (Team Captain), Brian Lux, and Johnathan Harless keeping them in the fight all the way through.

But on this day, everything lined up for one team.

On A Boat never lost that connection.

Their surfers linked together smoothly, each ride building off the last. Long nose rides, clean exits, smart wave selection—it all added up. No panic, no rush. Just confident, fluid longboarding when it mattered most.

A year after Team Alpha’s win—and their split—Gavin Idone’s new team found its footing in the best way possible.

On A Boat took the 2025 title.

Under perfect skies, with clean lines rolling through Walton Rocks, the event delivered exactly what it promised—great waves, great surfing, and a reminder that in a team format, nothing is guaranteed.

Just good timing, good flow… and making the most of every wave that comes your way.
